Deemed by Jack Horner in a 2004 BOAT U.S. review as by far, the most popular cruising catamaran in the United States, the Gemini is a Tony Smith designed boat manufactured in Annapolis, Maryland. With well over 400 boats afloat, Gemini owners have an active Association for those who are interested. The boat sails almost table-top flat so she is friendly to landlubber guests even in a fresh breeze. A quick boat for 30 feet, we have sailed, heavily loaded at speeds in excess of 7 knots for several hours at a time. One of the most attractive features of the Gemini is that it is difficult if not impossible to beat her livable accommodations. What other 30-foot boat offers a Captains cabin with a comfortable queen sized bunk as well as two, more intimate sized double quarter-berth cabins for guests, each with hanging lockers for jackets, etc? Further the Gemini also provides a head large enough to shower in, a dining salon that will seat you and your guests comfortably for meals prepared in the starboard hull galley, and a navigation station in the port hull.
As you enter the Phyllis, the propane/110-volt refrigerator is on the bridge deck just to starboard, and to port is the battery box with dual batteries. The box is easy to get into as the lid is hinged. All of the 12 volt switches are above the battery box and very accessible from the cockpit or the interior of the boat, as is the VHF. Three steps down to starboard, past the bulkhead mounted AM/FM radio is the galley with a 2 burner stove, with oven and broiler, a double sink, a cupboard for pots and pans, a drawer for cutlery, storage below the counter and under the dinette seat. Forward of the galley is the master, Captains stateroom with a queen size berth and storage in a bureau outboard. Shelves or a hanging pole can easily be added in the vee of the starboard hull.
Aft of the galley is the carpeted starboard cabin, which lies above a 30-gallon fresh water storage tank. Crossing the bridge deck to the port hull you are in the navigation station. Electronics read both at navigation station and on the bridge deck. Lots of countertop and storage space. Forward is the large head with a shower. Aft is the carpeted port aft cabin, above the second 30-gallon fresh water tank.
