Description:

DANIEL is a one-of-a-lifetime opportunity to buy a piece of sailing history of America. She was built in Niewendam (Holland) by world-recognized De Vries Lentsch Boat Yard for the prominent 1953's New York Major, Mr. Robert Wagner, who sailed this spectacular yacht (launched as Desiree) alongside the Long Island Sound during the mid 50's carrying on board different political and social personalities. During the late 50's this vessel was sold to the famous Buttler Brothers of Cape Cod (Massachusetts) who renamed her to Nomad and actively sailed her until the early 70's entertaining famous personalities, among them the Kennedy family when ex U.S. presidents Mr. Robert Kennedy and Mr. J. F. Kennedy used to sail this particular yacht in several occasions. This yacht definetly shows the high quality craftsmanship the De Vries Lentsch boat yard in known for, specially through its interior wood work with classic wood moldings, furniture finishing, fitting and dark mahogany panelings. There are still few original pieces of equipment left (like some stainless steel winchces, original compass binnacle and the original compass of the boat) however the second-to-last owner made major improvements in an effort to extend the effective sailing life of this great vessel. Among several upgrades the most important include new Hood aluminum masts and standing rigging (1982) and the replacement of at least 20% of the hull's steel plating. Also, some interior lay-out modifications at the forward sections were made to improve the living areas. The current owner has repalced another 12 hull's steel plates as needed, removed the old teak decks (now is non-skid paint over fiberglass), repowered her with a super strong engine and transmission, rebuilt rotten areas and painted the hull topsides and deck. This yacht has passed along several owners since commissioning it in NY and, lately, did not benefited from a compromised owner willing to restore her back to its glory days. However DANIEL still preserves her outstanding hull's sheer and lines with an unmatched beauty and it's in good enough condition to have her fully restored to her original specs or to be part of a classic sailing community due to her historic value. Considering the excellent structural condition and the history behind her this yacht unquestionably represents the best value if comapared with other wood-built classics offered for sale at much higher prices.
