Brand: Alden Category: Sailboats Right-arrow Classic Sailboats
Model: design 882 Boat name: Alibubu IV
Year: 1951 Price: $25,000
Description:

Custom designed by John G. Alden, and built by Abeking & Rasmussen in Bremen, Germany. 44'7 x 32'9 x 11'8 x 5'5. Displacement 30,000lbs, sail area 1000sq ft.

Look in John G. Alden and His Yacht Designs Book; it is the predessor, and very similiar to, the Seagoer class boats (picture, page 417). You will find it listed in the back as well; design # 882. I have copies original plans and specs from Alden in Boston.

Sleeps 6 confortably. Large cockpit and foredeck area; nice wide sidedecks.
Wheel steering. She has an easy motion, is seaworthy, and is not slow. Pilothouse has two setee/berths, drawers; hanging lockers. Two steps down to main salon traditional galley to port, head to starboard, two setees/berths with center drop leaf table then lockers and drawer chest, door to forward cabin, with V berth, and another toilet under seat. Large Forepeak, excellent amount of storage for sails and other gear. Round cockpit hatch and locker access aft. About 6ft standing headroom throughout. Lots of storage in lockers, and in bilge.

Good ventilation with 4 dorade cowl vents, 12 opening ports, and 3 opening hatches.

Hull was ultra-sounded at prepurchase survey; all repairs have been accomplished.

This boat is about 1/3 way through a major restoration that I cannot continue because of a health problem. I have already invested over $75,000, and roughly estimate another $65-$75,000 is required to complete. It is, with this pedigree, however, well worth the effort.

Currently, the steel hull has been repaired, and refinished on the inside (in the bilges, forepeak aft under cockpit; wherever accessible, with Devoe epoxy 5 coat system. This is a 25 plus year paint job, and was incredibly difficult and dirty to do. It is good that it's out of the way. The rest of the boat has fore and aft interior tongue and groove painted wood planking on the insides (called the ceiling), already refastened.

The overhead, as seen from below, is oak beams with painted oak planks. I have begun some work on the accomadation. - cleaned up, scraped, primed, etc.; icebox removed; refrigerator needs to be rebuilt. Head needs to be rebuilt. Original stainless counter, and Willis propane stove and oven (non-gimballed) in good conditon. New cushions and covers will be required.

Original plank Teak Decks have been removed. Steel deck beams have been refinished and are sound. I planned to replace the deck with plywood and Teak Decking Systems teak deck (current state of the art system; go online for more info). No plumbing or electric at all at this point. Cabin top needs recanvassing; new toe rails required all around.

Mainmast already rebuilt (taken fully apart, stripped, rewired, reglued). Boom and spinnaker pole not done yet. All spars - box section sitka spruce- need refinishing.

Have sails; realistically, all new sails required.

Standing rigging and lifelines in good condition. Galvanized stanchions.New running rigging required. New winches (I like Andersen) required.

Brand new BetaMarine diesel not yet installed; includes PRM hydraulic transmision, panel. Racor 75/500MAX filters, Perko 493 strainer. (this is over $17,000 worth machinery alone).

SSB, VHF, Radar, used, included.

Needs new water and fuel tanks.
Existing steering worm gear to be replaced with already designed Edson rack & pinion.

Aries Vane Gear excellent condition w/spares, Paul Luke soapstone fireplace, new Ideal Windlass Horizontal and controls included, not installed.

Outside hull finish sound, but not yacht-like smooth. Topsides and bottom fully painted and in good conditon.

Two Fortress, one Luke, two CQR anchors; no chain or rodes. 8 fenders, blocks, Trinka 8' sailing dnghy included. Lots of other miscellaneous gear and equipement.

All work done to date has been completed on a highly professional level. Please don't contact me, or consider taking this project on unless you realize what you are getting into, and have the resources - time, money, know how, energy - and commitment - to complete it. This is a good boat, and it's new home is important to me. All offers - the package of new owner and price - will be considered.
